Shoe Care 101: Don’t overdo it.
By Paul Evans
So it’s cold out. I know it, you know it, and our feet definitely feel it. Gone are the days of wearing your Paul Evans leather shoes sans socks. Now you need the right socks not only to keep your feet warm, but also to show off your personal style. That’s why I love Etiquette Clothiers’ socks—they combine the highest quality materials with stylish Italian design so I know they look good with my Paul Evans shoes. Here are 5 of my favorite pairs of Etiquette Italian men’s socks and the shoes I like to pair them with.
When I’m wearing my Dean Chelsea Boots, flashy socks aren’t really necessary. They’re pretty much completely covered, so I gravitate towards socks that provide comfort. Etiquette’s boot socks are made from the finest Italian combed cotton and have a reinforced toe and heel, meaning they’ll last as long as my handmade Italian boots. I like the Twisted Brown Heather for its neutrality… looks good whether you choose brown, black, or oxblood Chelseas.
I wear a lot of navy in the winter and sometimes the darkness can feel monotonous. That’s why I like to break it up—while still keeping it coordinated—with a pair of light blue socks. These Tri-Pop socks feature olive and navy accents, but when you wear them with navy slacks and The Brando Semi-Brogue Oxford in Cognac those accents are out of view.
My dad always wore Harlequin socks; perhaps that’s why I gravitate towards this classic yet eye-catching pattern. Etiquette’s black version is the perfect neutral version with olive green, khaki tan, and heather grey balancing the harshness of the black. These socks are individually constructed on a 240-needle knitting machine using smooth gassed mercerized cotton-blend yarn—which is pretty much the ultimate in sock construction. Pair them with The Stewart Penny Loafer in Nero to channel dad-style in a modern, updated way.
I’ve been throwing a lot of neutrals your way, so I had to pick a pair with a bold color for variety. When it comes to color, red makes a statement. I get a boost of power with these dark red Bordeaux socks with ballpoint detail. They’re the perfect pair of socks to add a little color to an otherwise basic outfit and pair great with The Olivier Single Monk-Strap in Marrone.
What I love about stripes is the simplicity of the pattern doesn’t make it any less bold. Wear these navy and ecru striped socks and people’s eyes will definitely be drawn down to your footwear. And while they’re eye-catching, the preppy style of these socks is still approachable. They’re not novelty, but they still smack of personal style. Not to mention they’re made of the softest Italian textured cotton, so even when you’re home and you take off The Cooper Blucher in Cognac (the casual staples were made for each other), you’ll want to keep them on.
Of course, these are just my favorites. Your personal style may call for something else. No worries, whatever style you’re looking for Etiquette has it; and each and every pair is made with the finest Italian craftsmanship. Find your favorite pair of Etiquette Clothiers Italian Men’s Socks here.
