Black out: 5 pairs of black leather shoes to keep in your closet
With the long, dark nights of winter upon us, we’ve been thinking a lot about black. In color theory, black is either considered the absence of color (regarding light) or the combination of all colors (regarding pigment). It’s both is and isn’t. It is everything and nothing. Black is so elusive that some scientists argue it isn’t a color at all.
But as far as fashion goes, there’s no question: black is THE color.
Women love it because it’s slimming, but men love black clothing because it is undeniably stylish and the king of neutrals. When it comes to our Italian leather shoes, almost all of our styles are available in our Nero hand painted leather. Here are five of our favorites:
The Dean Chelsea Boot
One of the things to love about The Dean is how it is simple in design, but with a bold attitude. In black, the Chelsea boot is given a badass edge that can be styled from Mod rocker or a modern hipster. It pairs well with trousers, suits, and jeans while being one of the most comfortable pairs of shoes in your closet. Plus, they’re perfect for the winter months ahead as they cover up to the ankle (and those tacky socks you’re hiding on laundry day).
The Legend High-Top Sneaker
While all of the colors of The Legend look amazing, we have a special place in our hearts for the Nero. With the bold, white sole they remind of us the Vans we wore to ribbons in high school—only these are much more grown-up. With fine full-grain Italian calfskin leather and extra padding for support and comfort, these sneakers cross between elegant and awesome.
The Martin Wholecut
You need the Martin Wholecut in your life for those situations where dress shoes aren’t optional. Their exquisite, seamless design comes from a single piece of hand painted Italian calfskin leather with Blake construction and a matching leather sole. If you’re ever in a situation where you don’t know how formal your footwear should be, these will cover your bases while being simple enough to not look like you’re trying too hard.
The Olivier Single Monk Strap
Some people think black is boring. These people have never seen the Olivier Single Monk Strap. Easily one of the most visually stunning pairs of shoes in our collection, this style looks great with a suit, but can really elevate a casual outfit when the time comes. While the rest of our black leather shoes let their simplicity stand out, the Olivier isn’t afraid to be bold and stylish with it’s buckle detail and textured cap-toe.
The Caine Bit Loafer
The Caine is our favorite black loafer amongst our various styles of slip ons. There’s something about the silver hardware featuring our signature fleur-de-lis that really pops against the Nero hand painted leather. We love to rock these sockless with cuffed khakis and a black button down for the easiest date night outfit ever. Just don’t forget the matching black leather belt.
