Essentials for the Summer/Fall Transition
Technically summer isn’t over until the 22nd, but with Labor Day come and gone it’s hard not to get into the autumn mood already. But while Halloween decorations are popping up in stores and everything is turning pumpkin flavored, there is still a little bit of summer heat lingering in the air. That’s why transition pieces are so clutch. You get the look of the season you want, while maintaining the comfort you need for the season you’re actually in. Here are some great transition pieces for summer and fall, including one of our favorite pairs of leather shoes…
A chambray shirt
Lightweight, breathable chambray is a great fabric choice for summer wears, but the classic Oxford look and neutral color make it a great layering piece when the weather cools down. If it’s still hot where you are, pair your chambray with your favorite twill shorts and a pair of driving moccasins. If you’re already feeling the chill, wear it with a darker pair of chinos, a canvas jacket and a great pair of chukka boots.
Tan chinos
We’ve already established that tan is going to be a fashionable choice this fall, but breaking out the chinos in this neutral is more than adhering to some color trend. Tan chinos are great transition pants because of their versatility. Cuff them a couple times, pair with a white short-sleeved button up shirt, and slip on a pair of oxblood penny loafers for a casual summer look. When the weather cools down, slip on your socks and oxfords and experiment with layers up top.
Chelsea boots
One of the best things about autumn is it’s finally time to break out the boots. The Chelsea boot is a great style for transitional dress because it looks just as good with jeans and a tee as it does with trousers and layers. These Italian shoes are a simple, elegant, and comfortable style that cover your ankle under a wider-leg pant, or—if you’re more adventurous—can look hip and modern over tucked-in skinnies. A simple cardigan
As the ultimate light sweater, the cardigan is perfect for transitional dressing. For warmer weather, it’s the perfect weight to throw on when you’re going out for the evening when the temperature drops ever so slightly. Once it gets cold out, you’ll love how easily it pairs with every shirt in your closet. Want to wear jeans and a tee? Chelsea boots and a cardigan elevate the look. Want a more classic look? Throw it on over that chambray and pair with the chinos and even a skinny tie. It’s a simple look that even the most clueless of dressers can’t screw up.
